Alternative Loving is a psychotherapy practice in Connecticut run by Gabbie Wynschenk, LMFT. This practice is dedicated to celebrating sexual & relational diversity! Gabbie offers individual & relationship therapy for those that live and love alternatively, supervision and case consultation to other helping professionals, and educational content for all.
On my about page. See the navigation bar above.
I am an LMFT at my core, so all of the work I do is fundamentally relational and systemic. I most commonly integrate classic MFT modalities like Narrative Therapy and Bowenian Therapy with post-modern evidence-based practices like Internal Family Systems. I also offer psycho-education throughout sessions when appropriate. There are several other modalities I touch into based on the client and presenting problem as well.
Regular therapy sessions with Gabbie are around 60 minutes each no matter how many clients are present (individual, couple, polycule, etc). Gabbie's other offerings, such as intensives, can be multiple hours long.
Unfortunately, not. I am licensed in the state of Connecticut only at this time. You can still reach out for any of my personalized non-clinical offerings such as coaching, consultations, and intensives. I also have non-personalized options like recorded classes, a patreon, and an Instagram that I make educational posts on that you can feel free to follow/subscribe to!
I no longer take any private insurances as in-network. I am still in-network with CT Medicaid or “Husky”. I do provide superbills to be used for out-of-network reimbursement, and offer a sliding scale. See my full payment policy below.
Yes, I have an office in Manchester, CT!
I firmly believe in co-creating the process with each and every client I work with, so you will have a say in that! For ongoing therapy, I like to begin weekly to build momentum though I am also open to biweekly meetings from the beginning. Many clients begin weekly and stay at that cadence for a month or two and then transition to biweekly. If there is a specific goal to accomplish, once that feels reached we discuss shifting to a monthly “tune up” process, or may discontinue meeting. I am always an email away should a client who left my care desire to re-engage. To me, while our engagement is built on genuine care and I believe the therapist-client relationship is just that, a relationship, my goal is to empower and build skills not to build a dependence to me/our work.
My most concise answer to this question is: a curious one. I believe that I could do good work with any client who is curious and wants to use that curiosity to cultivate deeper insight into themselves aligned with any of the topics I specialize in. Beyond that, I enjoy working with other helping professionals, with those in D/s dynamics or who allow kink to be a present practice in their lives, queers to yearn for more self-love and self-compassion in this scary world, sex workers, self-identified weirdos, and others who are brave enough to live and love alternatively.
